John 18:33-38 Sermon Notes

Intro - The Truth

1.  The Kingdom is not a realm but a reign

John 18:36 - Jesus answered, “My kingship is not of this world; if my kingship were of this world, my servants would fight, that I might not be handed over to the Jews; but my kingship is not from the world.”

Romans 14:17 - For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

2.  The King defends not a territory but The Truth

John 18:37 - Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth.

The Truth is Jesus, Who He is and What He has done.

The Contrasts of Understanding The Truth

A.  The Law is not The Truth.

John 1:17 - For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

B. The Truth is not the World’s understanding of Truth

Truth - the real facts about something : the things that are true, the quality or state of being true.(www.merriam-webster.com).

The Difference between True and Truth; Temporal/Eternal

Ephesians 4:15 - Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.

Love Sandwich -

Affirm Love, speak The Truth, ReAffirm Love.

Issue not Behavior but Identity

3.  The Citizens are not subjects but truth seekers who are sensitive to the voice of the King

John 18:37 -  Every one who is of the truth hears my voice.”

John 8:31-32 — 31 So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
