Luke 19:1-10 Sermon Notes

Intro - Repentance

What brings someone to repentance? God’s Kindness.

Romans 2:4 - Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

How is Jesus Kind to Zacchaeus?

Jesus substitutes himself for Zacchaeus.

“All Life Changing Love is Substitutionary Sacrifice.” (Jesus The King; Understanding the Life and Death of The Son of God, Tim Keller, p.154)

1. Our lives can change. We are not stuck.

2. How can our Lives Change?

Not by will power but by Love.

3. What kind of love? Substitutionary Sacrificial Love.

The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we become the Righteousness of God.

The Substitution for Zacchaeus

Luke 19:7 - And when they saw it they all murmured, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.”

The disdain of the crowd shifts from Zacchaeus to Jesus.

Kindness leads to Repentance and

Repentance leads to Salvation.

What are the Two Marks of the Salvation of Zacchaeus?

Joyful About Jesus - 6 So he made haste and came down, and received him joyfully.

And

Cheerful Giving - 8 And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have defrauded any one of anything, I restore it fourfold.” 9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham.
