Intro - Endurance

Luke 21:17-19 - 17 you will be hated by all for my name's sake. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish. 19 By your endurance you will gain your lives.

Endurance - hypomone - capacity to continue to bear up under difficult circumstances.

Two Types of Suffering:

General Suffering - Pain - Every Human Being

Christian Suffering - Persecution/Pressure - Christians

The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we become the Righteousness of God.

Ex. - The Message of 1 Peter, Edmund Clowney, p. 192

How am I persecuted?   Where is my endurance?

thlipsis - trails, persecution, pressure (in a physical sense, eg. of the pulse)

Pressure from who?   The World, the Flesh and the Devil.

But what happens when we do endure in the pursuit of the Gospel?

Character is built and hope arises.

Romans 5:3-5 - 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Those are our two words.

Sufferings - thlipsis  and Endurance - hypomone
