Jeremiah 1:4-10 Sermon Notes

Jeremiah 1:4-5 - 4 Now the word of the LORD came to me saying,  5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Our Sanctity of Life Sunday:

John 10:10 - The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life

Four “I” Statements from the LORD  to the prophet Jeremiah.

I knew you, I formed you, I consecrated you and I appointed you.

I Appointed You - ntn - to give, deliver, assign, put.

Genesis 12:7 - Then the Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.

Genesis 39:4 - So Joseph found favor in his sight and attended him, and he made him overseer of his house and put him in charge of all that he had.

Context - The Audience -

The LORD is speaking to Jeremiah and Believers.

The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ, by which we become the Righteousness of God.

A conversation between Joni Eareckson Tada and Kim -

Two Christian women who are quadriplegics.

Two Principles -

1.  Find that clear distinction between sustaining life and prolonging death.

2.  We are all connected.   No one dies to himself.   We’re called to think of others.

II Peter 3:8 -  But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.

Divine Geometry - each day is an opportunity to invest in a thousand years worth of eternity.

II Corinthians 4:16-18 - Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Psalm 90:12 - Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
