Luke 21:25-33      Sermon Notes

Intro - Second Coming of Christ

Two Groups of People - Two Reactions to the Second Coming of Christ:

Luke 21:26 - people fainting with fear and with foreboding of what is coming on the world. For the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

Luke 21:28 - Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

 What makes the Difference?

Our previous response to the Gospel.

The Gospel is the Good News of

the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Glory of the Second Coming of Christ -

Luke 21:27 - And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

1. The Image - Believers go to greet Him in the Clouds as the Advance Team

I Thessalonians 4:16-17 - 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord.

Confusion - Believers don’t go away with Jesus,

Believers greet Jesus as He Returns to earth.

(The God I Don’t Understand, Christopher JH Wright, p.165)

2.  The New Reality Begins - The Renewal of All Creation

Revelation 21:1-4 -2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.

What does the Second Coming of Christ Mean for Believers?

We Win! - The Rev. Terry Fullam

History is ultimately not cyclical but linear.

All Creation is Renewed - Including our pets.

Romans 8:20-21 — 20 for the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will but by the will of him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the glorious liberty of the children of God.

Hope for Believers who are suffering.

  General Suffering - All Humans.

  Christian Suffering - Persecution
