Mark 10:32-45 Sermon Notes

How am I changed?

Not By Law - The Law was given to convict us of our sin.

Romans 3:20 - For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

But By Love - “All Life Changing Love is Substitutionary Sacrifice.” (Jesus is King, Tim Keller, p.154)

Mark 10:45 - For the Son of man also came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Why did Jesus come to die? to give his life as a ransom for many.” Jesus Christ came to die as a substitutionary sacrifice.

Anti - which is translated for, but it means instead of, in place of, substitute.

Lytron - ransom, the means of release, to buy the freedom of a slave or prisoner.

The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

All Life Changing Love is Substitutionary Sacrifice:

Became Sin/Righteousness - II Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Cursed/Blessed - Galatians 3:13 - Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”

Condemned/Set Free - Romans 8:1-2 - There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Wounded/Healed - I Peter 2:24 - He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

Abandoned/Adopted - Mark 15:34; Romans 8:15-16 - For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Poor/Rich - II Corinthians 8:9 - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Died/Resurrection Life - I Corinthians 15:20 - But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.

Am I loved? (The Rev. John Wallace, Apostles by the Sea, Rosemary Beach, Florida). John 15:13-14
