The Perspective of the Apostle Paul in the New Testament:

Jesus lives and gives the life of Grace.

Paul receives and explains the life of Grace.

Biblical Terms -

Justify - dikaioo Verb Righteousness - dikaiosyne Noun

- to put right with, to cause to be in a right relationship

Believe - pisteuo Verb Faith - pistis Noun

-  can be fully believed, to regard as trustworthy, true, to trust

What is “Justification by Faith?” - “Justification involves a double counting, crediting, or reckoning.  On the one hand, negatively, God will never count our sins against us.  On the other hand, positively, God credits our account with righteousness, as a free gift, by faith, altogether apart from our works.” (The Message of Romans, John RW Stott, p.127)

When does this Justification by Faith occur?

When we Repent and Believe the Gospel.

The Gospel is the Good News of the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus Christ by which we become the Righteousness of God (Justification by Faith).

The Six Gifts of Justification by Faith (Justified Believers) :

Indicative not Imperative Mood

- not commands but statements of fact

1.  We have Peace With God - peace with God  (vs.1)

Peace - eirene - In its deepest application this is spiritual peace through restored relations of harmony with God. (Unger’s Bible Dictionary, p.980.)

Stand - histemi - stand, select, chose, be established,

our Grace Bubble

3.  We Rejoice in Our Hope of Glory -

Hope - elpis - certain expectation of future good.

Not wish, which implies maybe.

Philippians 3:21 - who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body

4.  We Rejoice in Our Suffering - we rejoice in our sufferings (vs.3)

Suffering - thlipsis - trouble, persecution, pressure.

General Suffering - Pain Christian Suffering - Persecution

We Renounce We Rejoice

5.  We Shall be Saved Through Christ -

be saved by him from the wrath of God. (vs.9) and

shall we be saved by his life (vs.10)

Wrath - Jesus has taken our judgement and given us grace

Life - Zoe not Bios. Zoe is eternal, abundant, Resurrection Life, Holy Spirit Life which we are enriched with right now!

Reconciliation - katallage - to reestablish proper friendly interpersonal relations after these have been disrupted or broken.

Why were relations disrupted or broken?

Four Labels Before the Grace of Jesus Christ:

1. Powerless -  For while we were still weak (vs.6)

We could not change ourselves, help ourselves.

2.  Ungodly - at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. (vs.6)

We were not about God’s agenda, which is what?  The Gospel

3. Sinners - while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (vs.8)

We were selfish.   Full of pride, love of ourselves only.

4. Enemies - For if while we were enemies (vs.10)

We were at enmity with our Father, we fought against Him

on the wrong side of the war.
