Eros - romantic love.

Phileo - deep friendship love.

Agape - sacrificial love.  Used to describe God’s love for us.

Jesus Uses the Word Agape

John 13:34-35 - 34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love (agape) one another: just as I have loved (agaped) you, you also are to love (agape) one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love (agape) for one another.”

The Typical Mistake - Focus on the Command/Law.

vs. 34 - A new commandment I give to you

The Grace Correction - Focus on His Prior Love.
